Steve Harney, a Windemere resident and President of Quality Printing Company, has announced his company has received certification by the Forestry Stewardship Council of the United States (FSC-US) and will begin immediately offering FSC-Certified papers as part of its continuing commitment to providing “greener,” more environment-friendly products and services.

According to Harney, receiving coveted FSC Certification status is a part of a long-standing, overall commitment to more sustainable print production methods and materials.

“We’ve been offering recycled papers for more than 20 years,” says Harney, “and we’ve been investing in systems to reduce energy use and to eliminate pollutants such as heavy metals and chemical developers since the early 1990s. Our efforts to achieve FSC Certification, from employment policies to recycling policies to the energy efficiency of our operation, translates into better value for our clients now, and a cleaner world for all of our children and grandchildren later.”

Quality Printing Company’s clients may now choose to use FSC-Certified paper and the FSC “checkmark and tree” logo in their brochures, catalogs, magazines and other printed materials. The FSC trademark lets end-use customers know that papers used in print production are derived from sustainable, well-managed forests where complex, old-growth forest ecosystems have not been disturbed.

“A lot of us misunderstand the use of trees,” says Harney. “There is a reasonable, ‘middle ground’ between carelessly clear-cutting our forests on the one hand and robbing ourselves of the benefits of wood products on the other. That middle ground is sustainability—using our resources in a way that guarantees their safety and long-term viability, while allowing us to have quality papers, furnishings and building materials to enjoy a greater quality of life.”
