Big Sur Geist resident Gregg Pellicone ran the Big Sur Marathon in California last week, achieving his personal goal of completing the race in less than four hours and far exceeding his fundraising goal. Pellicone managed to raise about $8,500 (well above his initial goal of $3,500) for cancer patient support and education.

“It was a fantastic experience,” Pellicon said. “Five months of training, 110 hours of running 590 miles and riding 710 miles, plus time in the gym got me there.”

The money Pellicone raised will go to The Wellness Community, an international, non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support and education to people with cancer and their loved ones. A newcomer to both marathon running and fundraising, Pellicone was featured in the February atGeist.com newsletter.

“Thanks to everyone for their support, both financially and with goodwill, as I could not have otherwise done this,” Pellicone said. “It was a wonderful experience, and all for a good cause.”

You can catch up with Pellicone (well, maybe if you’re fast) at the Geist Half Marathon May 17th. Read all about his experience at the Big Sur on his blog: http://conepile.blogspot.com/. Congratulations, Gregg!
