HSE Schools Foundation Provides $24,000 in Educator Grants to Innovative Teachers

SCIgrant The Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation recently announced grant winners receiving a total of $24,000 for educational programs and projects. Of 31 applications for over $61,000, 14 were selected for funding according to Executive Director Lisa Allen. Grant recipients follow:

· Anna Stumpf, Hamilton Southeastern High School - $2,000 for Fan Stand Spirit Shop. Allows DECA and Sports Marketing class to participate in year-long senior level class that runs a school-based enterprise – the school’s spirit shop.

· Jill McGrath, Amy Shipley, Julie Alano, Hamilton Southeastern High School - $450 for FLIPping for the Future. Affords three FLIP Video cameras allowing users to become experts in both video recording and editing in a matter of minutes for a variety of learning purposes.

· Jennifer Pope, Fishers High School - $620.06 for Focusing on a Firm Foundation. Funds classroom materials for special education students to improve math and English performance on ISTEP testing.

· Deborah Kletch, Jamie Melling, Brent Farrell, Brian Frost, Fishers Junior High - $1,935 for Give A Hoot. Allows students “go green” by creating a habitat for animals native to this area and determining the overall health of the environment.

· Chris Edwards, Fishes High School - $2,000 for Kindles in the Classroom. Provides technology to support a “paperless” classroom preparing students for the 21st century world and potentially saving money on materials.

· Julie Alano and Jill McGrath, HSE High School - $2,250 for Podcasting Possibilities for All. Allows teachers to incorporate podcasting into their curriculum by providing headsets required to create and/or listen to podcasts.

· Amanda Bradburn, Fishers Junior High - $1,700 for Read to Succeed. Provides material for this project designed for students in Functional Academic Program.

· Jayme Christman, Cindi Curnutt, Jennifer Gates, Denise Jarrett, Angelika Thompson, Fishers Elementary School - $2,000 for Reaching All Students with mimio Magic. Supplies the new technology of the mimio Xi, an interactive and portable whiteboard that enables teachers to extend and enrich current instruction.

· Julie McKinney, Lantern Road Elementary - $1,275 for Redcat - The New Sound of Achievement. Funds a state-of-the–art classroom amplification system that will enhance verbal communication and listening skill specifically for mainstreamed students.

· Meghan Jones, Randy Miller, Cumberland Road Elementary - $1,530.57 for SRA Reading Mastery Fast Cycle. Supplies materials to support special education reading pull-out groups.

· Andrea McMurty, Fishers Junior High -$1,500 for SHARBADE. Allows purchase of a team –oriented game for SHoulder, ARm and BAck DEvelopment of students for use in physical education classes.

· Heidi Wasteney, Riverside - $1,500 for SHARBADE – Provides team–oriented game for SHoulder, ARm and BAck DEvelopment of students for use in physical education classes.

· Karen Bowen, Deborah Kletch, Tom Petersen, John Schwoeppe, Fishers Junior High - $3,316 for Technology and the World Around Us. Funds probes and software for seventh and eighth grade science classes for collaborative hands-on activities.

· Brian Arthur and students Nivedita Potapragada, Madelin Clapp, Jessica Lorenz, Thomas Ritz, Benjamin Ferris, Jacob Hoffman, Sand Creek Intermediate - $1,855 for Walking Robots: Lego Mindstorm NXT. Supplies robots kits to be built and used in conjunction with computers. This project was created in part with the input/involvement of students.
