Geist Watershed Alliance Update
Filed Under: Business, Local News, Not for Profit
Great news! The Geist Watershed Alliance has non-profit status and can now accept financial donations. Please give – future recreational use of the lake depends on its water quality. The alliance is just beginning its work to address the issues affecting the lake.
Two grant applications have been filed, and the Alliance hopes that by the end of the summer, funds will be awarded to begin water testing, analysis, aquatic plant control measures and educational campaigns. This means the community must contribute at least $5,000 (cash or in-kind donations) towards the match requirement of the grants. Especially needed at this point:
- Bottles of drinking water
- Printed labels for water bottles
- Money towards printing costs for brochures and educational literature
Alliance members will be handing out water bottles at the Geist Half Marathon. You’ll have a chance to meet the neighbors who are working to protect the lake and see what they are doing. If you’re planning on attending the race anyway, please consider being an Alliance volunteer at the event.
