Geist Resident is Named Director of Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County

Carrie Petty has been named executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County. Ms. Petty brings more than 20 years of community involvement to the organization and says her experience has prepared her to take on Habitat’s mission of eliminating substandard housing throughout the county.
“There are more than 8,000 households in Hamilton County with people living in substandard or inadequate housing,” says Petty. “Many families are living in homes without running water, inadequate heat in the winter, leaky roofs, and no insulation. Habitat for Humanity’s primary objective is not only to build houses, but to help end the cycle of poverty in Hamilton County.”
“Carrie brings to our organization the multi-disciplines we needed which include a construction background, excellent track record of serving the community, great organizational skills and most importantly a big heart, says Barry Kiesel, president, Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County board of directors.
Petty has played an integral part of several community service organizations in Hamilton and Marion counties. She has served on the board of directors for Gleaners Food Bank, The March of Dimes, The Ryan White Foundation and the Hamptons at Geist Neighborhood Association. She has also served on the United Nations Walk the World for Hunger U.S. Planning Committee, Second Presbyterian Church Mission Committee and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful PIE Project Committee.
In addition to operating Petty Custom Homes with her husband Chris, Ms. Petty is the executive director of The CP Foundation, a non-profit organization which supports women and children affected by natural disasters. The Foundation’s most notable campaign was Bottles to Babies, which supported victims of Hurricane Katrina and the children of Sri Lanka affected by the recent tsunami.
Ms. Petty is the mother of two boys and, as a master gardener; her favorite hobby is playing in the dirt.
Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County (HFHHC), Indiana is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. HFHHC was incorporated in May of 1990 and since then has built 47 new homes for more than 175 family members, throughout the county.
