Earthquake Shakes Central Indiana

April 18, 2008 by PatCarlini

Did anyone feel the Earth move under their feet this morning? An earthquake measuring about 5.4, with an epicenter about 66 miles from Evansville rumbled through about 5:39am Friday morning, April 18th. Many reported a “swaying feeling” in their home and a few had some books fly off shelves, but, so far, no major damage reported!

I woke up just before it hit, my dog was whining in his sleep and it sounded like a baby crying. He must be one of those earthquake dogs, if there is such a thing. I seen it on Phenomenon.

I felt it, too. Woke up to hear things rattling around on my dresser and asked my husband why the house was shaking. I’ve never felt an earthquake before!

It woke me up. At first, I thought an animal had found its way into my house and was under my bed, but then I also heard the clothes hangers rattling on the other side of my room.

Not my first Indiana quake. I was sitting in the living room in 1983 when I told my husband to quit kicking my chair…only to realize that his feet weren’t anywhere near it! They say that one was slightly bigger, at 5.9.

I think we had another one about 45 minutes ago… i thought I was fainting and someone said “does anyone else feel that” - and I saw my door shaking.
