Independence Photo Contest Announced

Due to the overwhelming response to our first photo contest, we thought we’d try it again! “Independence” is the theme this time, so capture baby’s first steps or photos from the Fourth of July. You decide!
Deadline for submissions is July 31st with the winning photo being published in the August newsletter. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Bella Vita Ristorante.
Winners will be determined by a panel of Geist area photographers including atGeist.com Photographer Brenda Staples (www.brendastaplesphotography.com), atGeist.com Managing Editor Laura Gates, Fernanda Schwartz (www.fernandachwartz.com), Sarah Reimmuth (www.thenewcreative.com) and Bella Pictures photography consultant Kelly Wilson.
No professional photographers, please. Entries must be your own work and cannot have previous been published elsewhere. Please limit submissions to three per photographer. Photos must be taken in the Geist area or feature Geist residents.

How many photos can you submit? I have like 100 photos I’ve taken this winter/spring and I think you would like all of them!

You can submit as many as you wish, but I’d pick out the “top 5″ or so from the 100 and enter those.

How will you be able to weed out “stock” photos?

our “expert” panel can usually tell…if someone is willing to purchase a stock photo on the chance of winning a $50 gift certificate, we’ll give away a mental evaluation next time.

So the photos dont have to be taken locally but have to feature geist residents?

Yes, photos may be taken at Geist or feature Geist residents or both. We just want to see a local connection in the photo!

hi contestants - It was so much fun checking out the creative ‘eye’ of our Geist neighbors for the last photo contest! (Not to mention a tough challenge picking the top images!) For this contest, I am excited to see your new entries, but would also love to hear your take on how your images relate to the theme. The title of the image could fit the theme or you could include a short description of how the image fits the theme. This is just a suggestion…I know some of the pictures’ connection to theme will be self-explanatory! I am excited to see your new entries, Geist. Shoot away!

Also, if you submitted a photo in our “New Beginnings” contest that was not selected as a winner, and you feel it would be better suited for the “Independence” theme, you may resubmit that photo to the new contest.
