Amy Beverland Students Raise $1,000 for Humane Society

Amy Beverland Elementary first graders and student council members have been raising “Pennies for Pets” and have amassed $1,000 to donate to the Humane Society.

First graders in Mrs. Pennal’s and Mrs. Swanson’s classes have been studying pets, their needs, their jobs and much more. The children wanted to complete a community service to coincide with their project and decided to raise money for the Humane Society. Each classroom was encouraged to bring in coins to support animals in need. The classrooms earned a paw to place outside their door for each dollar that was donated. The first graders challenged the students to connect the building with “Paws for a Cause.”

The students earned over $1,000 to assist the Humane Society. The Student Council officers and first graders look forward to delivering the money to the Humane Society of Indianapolis on May 16.
