Crossroads Community Church will host a concert featuring Matthew Smith and Indelible Grace on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 7 p.m. Matthew Smith is a singer-songwriter who composes new music to centuries-old hymn texts. He is a founding member of the Indelible Grace community, whose work has drawn acclaim across denominational lines and is used in churches around the world.

Indelible Grace Music grew out of ministering to college students, primarily through Reformed University Fellowship. “We saw many touched by the gospel, gripped by the rich theology and great poetry of the hymns of the Church,” states Smith. Indelible Grace puts a new spin on revered material, and the re-imagined hymns have found wide acceptance among the church at large, joining people who desire to honor tradition with those who want a modern musical approach.

“Our hope is to help the Church recover the tradition of putting old hymns to new music for each generation,” explains Smith, “and to enrich our worship with a huge view of God and His indelible grace. This is not really a new movement at all. Up until the beginning of the 20th century, it was common for people to compose new music for each generation for many of the hymns that they loved. Our goal is not to change for change’s sake, but to rekindle a love of hymns.”

Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by calling the church office at 485-2175 or by visiting the church’s website at www.crossroadspca.org. Crossroads Community Church is located at 14885 Greenfield Avenue (State Road 238) in Fishers, IN, just one mile southeast of I-69, Exit 10.

Musician will collaborate with LRE students to create songs this Friday

Musician and educational consultant, Randy Beard will visit Lantern Road Elementary this Friday, January 18. For the second time this year, he will work with LRE students to put their written words into music. During Children’s Book Week in November, students wrote in small groups prior to his two-day visit, and then he combined and performed their words with his original music. This time, he’s collaborating with students on character education themes. Media Specialist Lori Silbert and Counselor Ellynn Stein will supply him with the school’s “life rules” ahead so he will know what types of discussions they have had. He’ll also talk about making good choices. Students will again write and he will incorporate their words into songs “on the spot.”

A former sixth grade teacher, Beard developed a creative writing activity for children as a reading exercise using his music and their words while student teaching at Indiana University . With guitar in hand, he was able to encourage children, especially the reluctant ones, to read and write. Beard is currently an educational consultant who has presented programs for more than a million students, teachers and parents throughout the United States . He has a collection of his music available on CD’s that include both solo and collaborative performances.

In addition, he and LRE Media Specialist Lori Silbert will present a program at the Indiana Reading Association Conference March 2 at the Convention Center. The convention is celebrating the 25th anniversary of “Reading Rainbow,” and Beard and Silbert will present “ Reading , Writing and Rockin’ the Rainbow.” They will highlight books, activities and music that teachers can use in their classrooms.

Mud Creek Players, Inc., a 58-year-old community theater group located at 86th and Mud Creek Road, today announced that atGeist.com will be their official “Community Partner” for 2008.

“atGeist.com has become the community voice of Geist Reservoir and we’re excited to work with them to broaden the reach of the Mud Creek Players,” said Karen Hewett, President of the Mud Creek Players.

Under the terms of their partnership, atGeist.com will promote the four productions scheduled for 2008 and the summer Barn RATS theater program designed for children. Also, atGeist.com will conduct interviews and podcast shows for their Geist Radio (www.GeistRadio.com) show which is an Internet-only audio and video channel.

“The Mud Creek barn is an institution here at Geist,” said Tom Britt, Publisher of atGeist.com. “Many of our residents drive by each day and wonder what their shows are like or what’s inside that barn-like building. I want to see to it that everybody knows what a gem of  a community theater we have here in our own backyard.”

Partnership talks began last fall when Geist Radio conducted live interviews with the cast of “Love, Sex and the IRS.” Britt, who was co-hosting the show with fellow Geist resident Steve King, began talks with Hewett and Publicity Chair Kathy Meyer.

“I was amazed at the level of talent and community present in that old barn,” said Britt. “We fell in love with the people, the atmosphere, and of course the homemade cookies.”
