MJ Layne Owners Michele Lauer and Cindy Lauer MJ Layne, a home décor, gift and clothing shop, opened its doors to the public Saturday, Dec. 8, at Olio Road and 116th Street in front of Kroger. In an area filled with bank branches, restaurants, grocery stores and boutiques, MJ Layne is a welcome addition.

MJ Layne is the collaboration of Michele Lauer and Cindy Lauer (at one time related through marriage) – two decorative painters that always had an interest in home decorating. “I finally said, ‘Cindy, let’s open our own shop!’” says Michele. They began scouting out areas in Geist and Fishers.

“This looked like a great spot,” says Cindy. “It is a high traffic area and right next to a good coffee shop (Higher Grounds)!” The first thing they did was name it (after nieces and nephews) and then..naturally enough, they painted the walls. The shop is now filled with glassware, candles, food items such as dip/soup mixes, lotions, hand-sewn stockings for the mantle and one-of-a-kind gifts.

“We wanted some unique items, not copycats from other stores,” says Michelle.

Here’s a unique item– a hand-blown glass, 100-percent useable putter, with a company or college logo on the bottom ($125) for the golfer who has everything! (Rumor has it the governor owns one and so does Peyton Manning!)

Pat_006 And for the gal who has everything, there’s the “Lucky Me” lotion from Judith Beard of Atlanta — a product that was a runner up for Oprah Winfrey’s favorite things list.

Cindy and Michelle hope to soon offer some HSE Royals items, as well.

A Grand Opening is planned for January, but for now, MJ Layne is open every day until Christmas and loaded with gifts for your family and friends — or, maybe just you and your home!
