It is that time of year again; the Holiday season winds down and you’ve made the New Year’s resolution to exercise more and stay in shape!
Well, you’re in luck! There are a number of places throughout the area with programs to fit your lifestyle and incentives to get you started.
Geist Fitness, located at 11693 Fall Creek Rd., has been in operation since 2000 and is a “limited membership” club focusing on providing the “Baby Boomer” generation with programming geared towards the members’ particular fitness and wellness needs.
Some of the programs currently include our signature “Healthy Lifestyle Coaching,” golf-specific training and personal training for individuals, partners and small groups. In January 2007, Geist Fitness will launch it’s new L.E.A.N. weight loss program.
Free group exercise classes are available to all members and include Spinning, Pilates, Yoga, Body Sculpting and Aerobics. The club is staffed by degreed and certified personal trainers, experienced group exercise instructors, a physical therapist and registered dietitian.
Geist Fitness offers a Free 7 day trial membership to local residents. Several types of memberships are available including monthly annual and corporate with rates starting at $39.00.

Geist Jazzercise offers a variety of dance aerobics and body sculpting classes that are choreographed to pop, country and rock music. Incentives (such as Jazzercise beach towels) are offered a few times a year to keep you going. Fitness establishments typically see a boom in business at the first of the year, and then it slightly tapers off.
Jazzercise instructor Kristin Lively-Smith has some advice on how to stick to your exercise program. “Visualize the kind of change you want and keep coming back,” she says. “When it comes to exercise, persistence will pay off!” Jazzercise is $75 to join and $38 a month for unlimited classes seven days a week. Childcare is available weekday mornings.

Have you ever driven by a Cardinal Fitness in the evening and noticed the fogged up windows? Well, there’s lot of huffin’and puffin’ going on in there.
You can find a couple of Cardinal Fitness centers at 10610 E. 96th street, and the new facility at 116th and Olio behind CVS. Marc Thoma of Cardinal Fitness says they offer memberships that are $19.99 a month, and they have month-to-month memberships. They do not require a long term contract. They feature only “Life Fitness” and “Hammer Strength” equipment, and they offer a Kids Club for the youngsters during weekday and weekend times.

The Fishers YMCA offers health and fitness for the whole family, as well as aquatics and open gym times. You pay a monthly fee based on your family income and enjoy a variety of classes and a drop-in babysitting room. Geist resident Lisa Verona teaches early morning Spinning classes at the Fishers YMCA, and she says if you are looking for a new exercise program for the new year, Spinning (which is riding a stationary bike to music) is the way to go! “It is an awesome exercise that anyone can do,” Verona says. “You work at your own pace and get better and stronger as you go.” Verona adds, “It’s a lot like running only without the impact and the winter air in your face!”
So whether it is spinning, dancing, weight-lifting or fogging up the windows, pick an exercise plan that you think you might enjoy and go for it in 2007.
